State Senate Debate

We are fortunate enough to have three quality candidates (Ed Mills, Regina Webb, and Mike Wilson) competing for this nomination in order to take this seat back for the Republican Party this November. Niger Innis at WKU

Niger Innis, spokesman for CORE, will be delivering a lecture at WKU on Thursday, Oct. 22nd, and 7 PM in the FAC Theatre. The lecture, entitled "Stop the War on the Poor", will highlight Mr. Innis' belief that the fight for affordable energy is the true final fronteir of the Civil Rights Revolution. The lecture is sponsored by the Political Science Dept., the African-American Studies Dept., and the Center for the Study of Capitalism. WKU College Republican's Founding President Runs for State Senate

As of 7:00 Thursday night, the Warren and Butler County Republican Party Executive Committee members met in session in Bowling Green to nominate a candidate to replace Brett Guthrie in the Kentucky State Senate.

J. Marshall Hughes was selected as the Republican candidate. Mr. Hughes was the founding President of the WKU College Republicans. As current president of WKU College Republicans I am honored to stand behind J. Marshall on this endeavor. I will be proud to have one of our own serving in the Senate.

What this means is that we must make sure he is elected.

The election is on February 10th, that is barely one month of campaigning and every vote counts in this election.

WHAT I AM ASKING OF YOU... is that if you are in or near Bowling Green right now and able to help, contact me ASAP so that we can get on this election. When everyone gets back in
town for class, we barely have 2 and 1/2 weeks before the election so it is crutial that you all help.

We Need Your Help!

The WKU College Republicans and College Democrats would like to announce their first annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. We will be collecting non-perishable food items to benefit needy families this holiday season. Donations can be dropped off in the Political Science Department, which is located on the third floor of Grise Hall, or you can contact us and we can pick up donations from your department on campus. The food drive will run from Monday, November 10^th through Friday, November 21^st. Donations will benefit the Barren River Area Safe Space and St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Please do what you can to make this holiday season a little bit brighter for those in need.

Parents Weekend

This weekend is parents weekend and Focus on Western and several other big events revolving around the First Home Football Game in the new Stadium against Murray State.

First meeting fun!!!

55 people were in attendance Tuesday night as we met for our first meeting of 2008. State Sen. and 2nd district Congressional Candidate Brett Guthrie was our guest speaker. He addressed the current election and the college republicans involvement in the races. We also heard from RPK representative Tres Watson on the GOTV effort and the 72 hour push. Monday we are making our way up to Owensboro for the Red White and Blue festival. We will be working with the Daviess county party helping out with the speeches. We will be busy in the coming weeks. WKU CR's help with the Republican State Convention

On Saturday Andrew Denney, Sara Miller, John Whitaker, and Shane Noem helped Mitch McConnell for Senate, Guthrie for Congress, Northup for Congress and McCain for president for their efforts with stickers and registration. Of the countless dignitaries that spoke, the more prominent ones included Secretary of State Trey Grayson, Senator Jim Bunning, Congressman Geoff Davis, State Senator Brett Guthrie, State Senate President David Williams, RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, Former White House Deputy Political adviser to the President Scott Jennings, and many others. There was a large ruckus created when Ron Paul supporters tried to make points of orders on the convention floor for various reasons. This eventually led to RPK Chairman Steve Robertson to remove the microphones from the floor and throw several people out of the convention. An unprecedented event for sure.

Western Students Meet McCain

As John McCain came to Nashville for a town hall meeting, so did the WKU College Republicans. Sara Miller, Jon Moore, Nicole Aho, Shane Noem, and Derek Noem were privileged to hear Senator McCain respond to audience members questions, and shake the Senators hand. Senator McCain has challenged Senator Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, to a series of forums similar to the one witnessed last Monday.

Kentucky Republican Convention

On June 7th, we have been asked directly by the Republican Party of Kentucky to help run the Kentucky Republican Convention. We will be registering delegates, showing people where to go, passing out stickers for candidates and helping the RPK with anything they need help with.

This is WKU CR's time to shine!

We really need a lot of help on this one, so If you are within driving distance of Bowling Green, please consider coming in town for the weekend. I can find a place for you to stay if you would like.

The McConnell campaign is looking for volunteers to help make phone calls to encourage people to get out and vote in the upcoming Kentucky primary. Volunteers are needed for Tuesday (May 6th) and Thursday (May 8th) of this week, and Monday and Tuesday (May 12th and 13th) of next week. We will be calling each night from 5-8 PM, but even if you can only help for an hour or two it would be greatly appreciated. The calls should be relatively easy as they are going to registered Republicans and will only consist of a couple of questions. Warren Co. Lincoln Day Dinner

Last Saturday night we had 10 people at the Carroll Nicely Center for the annual Warren County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner. Guest speakers included WKU President Gary Ransdell, Judge Executive Mike Buchanon, State Senator and 2nd Congressional District Candidate Brett Guthrie, Amy Bingham (Jim DeCesare's wife), Former Deputy Political Adviser to President George W. Bush, Scott Jennings, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Our very own Dr. Scott Lasley presented the Volunteer of the year award. Andrew Denney, Jeremy Roe, Alex Gerard, Nicole Aho, and Shane Noem all helped out with Senator McConnell's campaign. Great time and GREAT food.

KFCR 2008 Conference

Andrew Denney, Jeremy Roe, and Shane Noem went to Lexington for the 2 day Kentucky Federation of College Republicans 2008 Conference. Republican students from across the commonwealth gathered on UK's campus to make friends, listen to guest speakers, and elect officers for the 2008-2009 school year. The speakers included Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Former Deputy Political Adviser to President George W. Bush, Scott Jennings. In addition, Shane ran for Secretary and won the post in a landslide. Hopefully we can send an even bigger delegation to next year's conference.

District Convention

Brett Guthrie, our state senator from Bowling Green who is running to fill Ron Lewis' U.S. Congressional seat, needs volunteers to help pass out yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. at the District Convention on Saturday, April 26. Every member is eligible to attend the convention. It is very important that we have a big turnout at this event. If you would like to participate please let Shane know ASAP!

Mr. Decesare is currently running for a third term in the Kentucky House of Representatives. He has done a good job representing the interests of Bowling Green and it is important that we as an organization do what we can to facilitate his reelection. In addition, we will discuss ways in which you can stay involved with the group while you are away from WKU for the summer. We will also discuss our tentative plans for the fall semester so we can hit the ground running when everyone comes back to campus following the summer break.

KFCR and Lincoln Day Dinner

WKU can have up to 5 delegates at the conference, plus Shane is running for a state office and would benefit greatly from the support of any members in attendance. McConnell's reelection bid.

The lecture was both interesting and informative, and we hope to have the Secretary back to speak to the CR's in the near future.
